Top Winter Activities to Do in Minnesota

Posted by Omega | Jan 22, 2018

As Minnesotans, we are known for embracing winter. There are numerous activities you can do to enjoy our winter wonderland. In addition to this special year when we are hosting the Super Bowl, there are numerous options to enjoy the cold part of the year – both outside and inside.

Some outdoor activities to consider include:

  • Saint Paul Winter Carnival – From Jan. 25 to Feb. 10, 2018, this winter celebration includes a 70-foot ice palace, the Pioneer Press treasure hunt and the 33rd Securian Winter Run.
  • Ice Castles in Stillwater – With brilliant archways and towers, ice-carved tunnels, fountains and slides, this attraction can be found at Lowell Park through March 31, 2018 (closing date dependent on weather).
  • Sledding – There’s something special about flying down a hill out of control that evokes childhood memories. Check out this list of the 10 best sledding hills in the Twin Cities.
  • Skiing, tubing and snowboarding – OK, so we don’t have the mountains that Colorado has, but Minnesota does have some excellent resorts – particularly up north. Look at this guide from Mpls.St.Paul Magazine for information on our state’s resorts.

For those of you who want to get out of the house but aren’t too excited about being outdoors, check out:

  • Mall of America – You could spend the entire day here shopping, visiting Nickelodeon Universe, and much more. Peek at the nearly 16,000 reviews on Google to see why people across the U.S. come to this top tourist destination.
  • Downtown Minneapolis – With 11 miles of skyway (the longest continuous system in the world), you can make a weekend of downtown Minneapolis without even putting on your coat. Stay at a hotel, catch a Minnesota Timberwolves game, go shopping and eat at delicious restaurants – it’s all here for you in the heart of the city.

No matter your area of interest, there’s something fun for you to do in Minnesota this winter.
