Finding Fairy Houses in the Twin Cities

There’s a magical, mystical world in the Twin Cities that you’re probably whizzing by every day without even noticing.

We’re talking about a world of elves and fairies. . .and their fairy houses. Here’s a look at some of the fairy houses in the Twin Cities. (Hint: Searching for fairy houses is a good family adventure on a sunny day, as some of the fairy houses can be tough to find.)

  • Nine Mile Village Townhome Association – At this unique association that we manage in Edina, an elf has found a home among our residents. If you can’t find the fairy house based on the above photo of the door, get in touch with us and we’ll give you more clues.
  • Lake Harriet Elf – According to this site, the Lake Harriet Elf moved into the tree on the south shore of Lake Harriet in 1995. Mr. Little Guy responds to every note left for him in the tree.
  • Deming Height Park – The elf doors are mysteriously well maintained. Be sure to leave some treats for the elves, which are known for having a sweet tooth: https://roadtrippers.com/stories/minneapolis-deming-height-park-has-an-elf-infestation-dot-dot-dot-just-look-at-these-cute-fairy-doors
  • Mows – While technically not a fairy house, this San Francisco-turned-Minneapolis street artist has created more than 100 tiny doors throughout the Twin Cities. Look here for photos and visual clues to find these doors tiny enough for a mouse: http://www.onlyinyourstate.com/minnesota/magical-secret-city-mn/
