5 Summer Activities to Do Before School Starts This Fall

Posted by Omega | Aug 16, 2018

Despite all the back-to-school sales, summer vacation is not over! Before school starts this fall, make sure to live up the last few weeks of August with these six fun summer activities in the Twin Cities:

  1. Host a neighborhood cookout: Pick a date and knock on neighbors’ doors. All you need are brats, buns and a grill. Ask the neighbors to come with side dishes, and you got yourself an epic block party.
  2. Play a round of mini golf: Pick a sunny afternoon to drop by Centennial Lakes for a round of mini golf. The course costs $10 per person and only takes about two hours to play. After your 18 holes of fun, stroll around the lake and enjoy the sweet smell of freedom before school starts.
  3. Attend the drive-in theater: Trek to Lake Elmo and visit the Vali-Hi Drive-In, which is open every night. The drive-in is affordable fun for the whole family, with kids 12 and under costing only $1 each. Supporting the drive-in helps this retro experience stay around for many summers to come.
  4. Picnic at Minnehaha Falls: Pack a picnic basket and hop over to Minnehaha Falls. Tour the sculptures and peruse the gardens as the kids splash around the ponds. Minnehaha Falls is highly rated as a park anyone can enjoy – especially during the end of summer.
  5. Visit the Minnesota State Fair: From Adventure Park to Grandstand performances all the way to 4-H exhibits and funnel cakes, the Minnesota State Fair has it all. Though last on the list, this event takes first place in summer activities you don’t want to miss. Bonus: You can pre-purchase your state fair tickets for a reduced price, as supplies last!
